If you are anything like me, an organized home is one of the things that help you survive and have a successful week. So, I’m so excited to share this Mom hack to organize my little girl’s little toys! I can’t wait to share it with you in this post.
Between prepping meals, bedtime routines, and extra activities, a clean house at times can get shoved to the bottom of the to-do list. Although my son is now a teenager and is more into video games then toys, I have two little girls. And it’s amazing how much space their “things” take up in our household!
The toy takeover
Although toys have its designated spot in the house, which is their playroom, they still somehow appear…everywhere!
I’ve given up the possibility of the “no toys in the living room” because that’s just not realistic. Although most of the girl’s toys are in that playroom upstairs, I’ve allowed them to win the battle of having some items downstairs. We are downstairs a lot, so it’s a must to have toys near that they can play with while I’m in the kitchen.
For the most part, the toys that were downstairs and around the house weren’t much of a big deal to me. But that all recently changed. Because my now 1-year-old is walking and so curious. Which basically means that she is getting into everything. And she is one of those babies that finds great enjoyment to put everything, and I mean everything, in her mouth.
I shamefully admit that one day while I was at work, my husband caught her trying to put a fly in her mouth! Yuck!
New age, new toy Interests
So now that Mila is 4, her interests have changed. Her latest obsession is Barbie. And I’m super excited for this phase! I personally LOVED Barbie as a kid and have some great memories from playing Barbie. But I realize now that having Barbie comes with having different accessories for Barbie. And they seriously have hundreds! Every accessory you can imagine.
I’ve had these horror scenarios in my head of my littlest eating some Barbie toothbrush or Barbie earring and choking. So, for the last couple of months, I have been on the search for the perfect way to organize those little items that girls just love to collect.
At first, I had tried out clear small storage containers. That concept was short-lived. Mila found it so difficult to find the toys she wanted or needed. Random toys, like Mcdonald’s Happy Meal toys, seemed to somehow make their way in there. She would get frustrated and dump everything out to locate that one item which led to more mess and clean up.
The perfect way to organize
And then one day, it clicked. I searched on Amazon and managed to find these small clear boxes that turn out to be for jewelry but ended up being perfect for her toys.
Once I received them, I knew they would be perfect. One early morning, I had rummaged through that small storage bin, and took out all her little toys and put them these clear boxes.
She was SO happy when she saw it. You could see how excited she was when she said with a smile, “Mommy, I can see everything!”
The great part of it too is that those little clear dividers are removable. So you can customize the containers based on the size of the toy. She also has Hatchimals and Shopkins, and they also fit perfectly in these!
Easy clean up: Mom win
They are super small so they can easily fit in a small kid’s backpack, diaper bag, or even my bag if she wanted to bring one out to play with.
I’m going to carry over the same concept and organize her LEGO’s as well.
The best part of all? It’s easy for her to put everything away. Kids can find cleaning up overwhelming. However, this makes it super easy for her to do it herself, without my help. Which all in all is the best mom win!
I hope you enjoyed this mom hack! It has made my life so much easier in the last week!
